For students

Questions do not arrive between nine and three. They arrive at ten on a Sunday night, halfway through a problem set, and there is usually nobody to ask. We are building the thing that is there at that moment — not to hand over the answer, but to find where the reasoning broke and work through it. What it tells a student has to hold up to a teacher's judgement. That is a design rule, not a model left to improvise.

For teachers

A teacher's scarcest resource is time, and a great deal of it goes to work that is not teaching: writing practice, marking it, and working out who is stuck and on what. Aperio is being built to take that load, so those hours go back into the part only a teacher can do. The aim is not to replace anyone. It is one teacher able to reach every student in the room properly.

For parents

Parents are asked to judge something they cannot see. Good tutoring helps — the trouble is there has never been nearly enough of it, and what a family gets depends on who they can find and when. We want the same care to be there on a Tuesday night, to hold up equally well for every student, and to come with an honest view of how your child is actually doing.

For all of history the best teaching could not scale. It took one experienced adult per student, so how much of it you got came down to circumstance. AI is the first thing that genuinely changes that arithmetic.

But a language model on its own is not a teacher. It sounds equally confident whether or not it is right, and a wrong explanation delivered well is worse than no explanation at all. So the design here is deliberate: educators decide what good looks like, and the AI carries it to far more students than any one of them could sit down with.

That is also what we mean by fair. The standard a student gets should come from the educators behind the product, not from which tutor their family happened to find. One standard of quality for everyone — which is not the same as one way of teaching, since the entire point is that the explanation fits the student in front of it.

Aperio is early. This public site is the beginning of it — a real sample question and the first course content being written. Almost everything above is still ahead of us, and that is the honest reason these roles exist.

Aperio's founding team comes at this from both sides — building software and AI systems, and years of teaching in real classrooms. What counts as a good explanation is decided by people who have actually taught, and it stays that way as the team grows. It is not a job we intend to hand to a model.

If you want a finished product to maintain, this is not it. If you want the stage where the important decisions have not been made yet, it is.

• Decisions get written down before they get built. Design notes live in the repository, not in one person's head.
• Educators shape the content and engineering builds the platform — and the two talk directly, without a layer in between.
• Say what is actually built. Never oversell what is still in progress.
• Simple, readable work that the next person can pick up.
• One standard of quality for every student. We do not build a better version for whoever pays the most.

• Full Stack Developer

  Hybrid — Victoria, BC · Full-time, 40 hours per week · $30 per hour

  You would be the engineer on a small team, working across the web app people see and the service behind it. Aperio is early, so the work is broad: you would build features from the database up to the page rather than pick up tickets in one layer.

• Sales Associate

  Hybrid — Victoria, BC · Part-time, 20 hours per week · $20 per hour, plus commission

  You would be the person who talks to students, parents, and schools — finding out what they actually need, and working out which courses and materials fit. It is a selling role, but the useful half of it is judgement about learning resources, not pressure.

• Marketing Associate

  Hybrid — Victoria, BC · Part-time, 20 hours per week · $20 per hour

  Aperio is new, and almost nobody knows it exists. You would be the one changing that — writing about what the product actually does and getting it in front of the students, parents, and teachers who would want it. Students currently in school are welcome to apply.

• AI Engineer Intern

  Hybrid — Victoria, BC · Internship, 35 hours per week, January to April 2027 · $20 per hour

  A learning role working directly with Aperio's lead on the part of the product that matters most: turning a student's wrong answer into an explanation that actually helps. You would be given real work, with someone experienced reviewing it.

• Data Scientist Intern

  Hybrid — Victoria, BC · Internship, 35 hours per week, September to December 2026 · $20 per hour

  A learning role working directly with Aperio's lead on what students actually do in the product: where they get stuck, which explanations help, and what we should change because of it. You would be given real work, with someone experienced reviewing it.
