Data Scientist Intern

A learning role working directly with Aperio's lead on what students actually do in the product: where they get stuck, which explanations help, and what we should change because of it. You would be given real work, with someone experienced reviewing it.

• Work with the lead on questions like where students get stuck, which explanations help, and what comes before someone gives up.
• Pull and clean data with SQL and Python, and build the analyses that answer those questions.
• Turn a result into something the team can act on. A clear chart and one clear sentence beat a notebook nobody opens.
• Be honest about uncertainty. With a small number of users most differences are noise, and saying so is part of the job.
• Help decide what is worth measuring in the first place.

• Working toward, or recently finished, a degree in statistics, data science, computer science, mathematics, or something similar.
• Comfortable with Python (pandas or similar) and SQL.
• Enough statistics to recognize when a result means nothing.
• Able to explain a finding to someone who is not a statistician.
• Happy to learn from review and to ask questions early rather than guess.
• Legally entitled to work in Canada.
